5 Last-minute Year-end Giving Tips

Donor Blog

Year-end giving is one of the most critical times for nonprofits. Some estimates say 1/3 of all annual giving comes in in December. Though your year-end giving campaign should have been run for the month of December, if you’re scrambling at the last minute, there ARE a few things you can do to boost your giving before midnight on the 31st.

Don’t let these last few days slip by without giving a year-end giving appeal one final push. You may be surprised at just how effective even a late ask can be. (And late is better than not-at-all, right?)

Here are a few ideas for steps you can take now to get those year-end gifts:

  1. Send more reminder emails than you think necessary. Definitely plan for several the week of the 25th up to the 31st. On the 31st, send at least one in the morning AND one in the evening.
  2. Get super active on social media, with countdowns and reminders to give.
  3. Run Facebook ads targeting your donor file, so that your messages are reinforced on social media.
  4. Segment out the people on your list who have never given and encourage them that now is the time to give.
  5. Segment out people who made year-end gifts in the last two years and who haven’t given yet and ask them directly.
