Why We Serve

Donor Blog

Good work is good for the soul, and with nonprofits, it’s good for others, too.

Sure — our labor is often tiring, sometimes challenging, and frequently thankless. But at its core, our work is good.

Working with and for a nonprofit organization or ministry means that your work matters. Everyday you affect people’s lives. Sometimes the work you do is, literally, a matter of life and death — and that’s important.

This weekend, we in the United States celebrate Labor Day. From the U.S. Department of Labor’s website, Labor Day is “ … the first Monday in September,  … a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.”

We can think of no other group that has made a more meaningful contribution to the “strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country” than those who work faithfully in the non-profit sector.

Be encouraged to continue your work, even when you’re tired, stressed, or burned out. Keep going when you feel like taking a break or quitting altogether. Fix your eyes on the goals you have for the people who need your help the most; they are counting on you.

This Labor Day, we celebrate all the good work that’s being done by nonprofit leaders, staffers, and volunteers. Thank you!

Share with us your stories of why you serve. Tell us about your work and why you love it.
