Sometimes people simply don’t give because giving isn’t accessible. So today we’re outlining a few ways that you can grab people’s attention more effectively as soon as they land on your website (and as they continue through each part of your site).
A prominent “Give” button
No matter where people are on your site, they should always have easy access to give. For some people, reading about your team or going through your “About” page is inspiring enough to prompt them to give. So make sure you have a well-designed “Give” or “Donate” button located in your header that stands out from the rest of your top-level menu. Doing this will call people’s attention no matter where they go in your site.
A giving form on your home page
The home page of your site should already be filled with the most condensed and compelling copy that you have, explaining who you are, what you do, and how you do it. So if you’ve gone to all the trouble to make that copy so effective, why not pair it with a powerful appeal? It could be anything from your most popular campaign to your greatest current need—whatever it is, create copy that explains the need and how people can help. Pair it with engaging photography or video and embed a giving form directly on the page.
For most people, the minute they land on your website is the moment when they are most engaged with your brand and most inspired by your work. So capitalize on that momentum by asking people to get involved or give right away. For an example of an organization that’s doing this effectively, check out World Vision. About halfway down the page, they provide an easy way for people to give and become a part of the World Vision family right away!
Easy recurring giving options
Some people want to set up their gift, select recurring or monthly and never have to think about it again. So are you making these options available to your donors? No doubt you have several different branches of your organization and several different giving forms depending on the appeal you are making, but it’s so important to make sure that you are still providing your donors with a way to set up easy monthly giving. People do it with their bills and they want to be able to do it with their giving as well!
Feature stories
Everyone loves a good impactful story about how your work, in conjunction with donor dollars, is making a difference around the world. So if you’re sharing these moving stories, you should also be providing people with a way to give at the end. It doesn’t have to be a strong ask, just a simple option for your readers to click if they feel inspired enough to give to help even more change and impact happen. Don’t guilt people into giving in these situations, just provide the option and let them choose for themselves.
Remember, it should always, always be easy for people to give while they’re on your site. If people have to dig to find a way to be involved, you’re doing it wrong. So make it easy for your donors by implementing these four tactics in your site. Your donors will thank you for it with their gifts!
